By 2026, Thailand will be one of the world’s leading destinations for solo tourists, reports the Bangkok Post. It says Thailand already has “almost all the required elements for a country to succeed as a solo tourist destination,” from vibrant cities and exotic beaches to cultural landmarks and adventure islands. Safety and affordability are also high, the paper adds. Thailand in 2026 is still very much the land of smiles and a country where the past, present and future exist side by side in perfect harmony.
A country where all cultures blend and a country where one can truly be alone without ever feeling lonely. But is Thailand really good for solo travel in 2026?
Thailand offers something most solo travellers want:
1. Safe and Tourist-Friendly
Safety is the #1 question we get at Musaafar. Yes, Thailand remains one of the safest countries in Asia. It is one of the safest countries you’ll travel to as a solo backpacker in South East Asia. Thailand has tourist police patrolling the streets and the infrastructure of the country is quite well developed, and there are a number of areas, such as popular tourist areas that are generally considered to be safe and where you can get by speaking just English.
Solo female travelers also frequently choose Thailand due to:
- Good hostel culture
- Strong backpacker network
- Friendly locals
- Well-lit tourist areas
2. Easy Transportation
Domestic flights, buses, trains, ferries — all are well-connected.
Best Places in Thailand for Solo Travelers
Chiang Mai
The capital of the world for digital nomads. Work out of one of the many coffee shops and spend your evenings strolling through the night market. Easy to make friends here.

Krabi & Railay
Krabi is home to some of the most impressive limestone karsts in Thailand. A popular destination for many travellers, Krabi is also a great destination for the solo traveller. With a large number of tour operators and adventure companies, it’s easy to join a group tour or climbing expedition, as well as meet other like-minded travellers.

Bangkok
The city that never sleeps is slowly but surely becoming more bearable to commute in as the expansion of the MRT/BTS lines continues.
Bang Rak is one of our favourite areas to explore, and we highly recommend a wander around the ‘Creative District’ to check out a couple of our top trend spots, especially if you’re travelling solo.

Thailand Visa Rules for 2026
